What can I expect from therapy? I will normally send some brief questionnaires for you to complete before we see one another for the first time, so that I can get an overview of your current symptoms. During our initial sessions, we will focus on assessment. I will ask questions to help to understand the reason for you choosing to attend therapy as well as the type of psychological approach (‘model’ of treatment) that will suit you best. We will discuss the development of the issues during your earlier life, as well as how they impact you now in your day to day functioning. Together, we will form a shared understanding known as a ‘formulation’ of your situation, that will clarify the goals that you have for therapy, as well guiding as the overarching treatment process. After the assessment is completed, we will move into a treatment phase. What this consists of will differ somewhat depending on the therapeutic model that we are using, however sessions will normally have space to discuss any salient events that you would like to bring up, as well as a focus on moving towards our therapeutic goals. Between sessions, we will set a task or agree on something for you to think about further, to help to keep the process moving forwards. We will regularly review our progress, refer to our formulation, and check in on how you are finding the process. Towards the end of our time working together, we will move into a reflective phase, thinking about how you can carry forwards your learnings and the new tools that you have to continue moving forwards without therapy.

Do you share what we discuss with other people? A centrepoint of the therapeutic relationship between a psychologist and their client is clinical confidentiality. This means that in general, I will not be sharing the content of our sessions with anyone else. There are a few exceptions where confidentiality may be broken: - If you tell me something that makes me worried about the safety of either yourself or of someone else, for example that you wish to harm yourself or to end your life. It is within my duty of care to do all that I can to help to keep you safe. Generally if this occurs, we will work together to come up with a safety plan, and collaboratively contact others to help to support you (this may be your next of kin or another professional). - If I am legally required to share my notes due to court proceedings, e.g. via a subpoena. In addition to the above, we may collectively decide to share elements of our sessions with your support network to help them to help you. I would encourage you to lead on this, and assist you in doing this if required.

What are your fees? My charges are in line with the professional training and experience that I hold. They include the time spent in-session, as well as the preparation work, any routine follow-up and the record-keeping needed to support your therapy. Please contact me directly to discuss fees and I will be happy to send information across. I currently hold a limited number of sessions available at a lower cost; assessed by household income.

Can I use my health insurance to pay for my therapy? I am not currently registered with health insurers in the UK. However, my work at Central Health Hong Kong is covered by major health insurers (some of whom operate globally). Please check your policy.
Q
What is your cancellation policy? Cancellations must be made more than 24 hours in advance of the planned session time. The full fee will be due if cancellation is less than 24 hours in advance. If your session is on a Monday/before a public holiday, I ask you to cancel by noon on the previous working day (i.e. a Friday at noon for a Monday session, as well as a Friday at noon for a Tuesday session if this follows a Monday bank holiday). If you do not attend a session without giving notice, the full fee will apply.
